Aneurysms of the Splenic Artery in Liver Transplant Recipients

چکیده
Splenic artery aneurysms occur infrequently in the normal population, but presents with increased incidence among cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension. The optimal management of splenic artery aneurysms and the prevention of spontaneous rupture in these patients present a therapeutic challenge for transplant physicians and surgeons. We discuss a case of SAA rupture in a liver transplant recipient, and evaluate the available treatment options described in the literature.

Splenic artery aneurysms occurring in liver transplant recipients.
Splenic artery aneurysms (SAA)* are found in 0.1% of the cases in large autopsy series (1) and in 0.8% of un selected abdominal aortograms (2). The incidence of SAA is higher in patients with portal hypertension, in whom it is reported to occur in 8.8% to 50% of cases (3, 4). Rupture of SAA carries a high mortality rate. Rupture of SAA in liver transplant recipients has been reported (4,5). To ...
متن کاملClinical Application of Partial Splenic Embolization
Partial splenic embolization (PSE) is one of the intra-arterial therapeutic approaches of diseases. With the development of interventional radiology, the applications of PSE in clinical practice are greatly extended, while various materials are developed for embolization use. Common indications of PSE include hypersplenism with portal hypertension, hereditary spherocytosis, thalassemia, autoimm...
متن کاملHemosuccus pancreaticus associated with splenic artery aneurysms and hepatic artery thrombosis late after liver transplantation.
We read with interest the article by Ray S. et al. recently published in JOP. Journal of the Pancreas [1]. We agree with authors that given the rarity and intermittent course of hemosuccus pancreaticus, difficulties in determining the location of bleeding sometimes cause delay of treatment. Until now, reports on hemosuccus pancreaticus in transplant population have been quite limited. Therefore...
متن کاملMaturation State and Function of Monocyte Derived Dendritic Cells in Liver Transplant Recipients
Background: Dendritic cells (DCs) are potent antigen presenting cells for triggering of the immune reaction post transplantation. These cells are centrally involved in the initiation of T cell-dependent immune responses. Objective: To compare the level of DC maturation and function in liver transplant recipients with healthy controls. Methods: In this study, twelve peripheral blood samples we...
متن کاملQuantifying increased hepatic arterial flow with test balloon occlusion of the splenic artery in liver transplant recipients with suspected splenic steal syndrome: quantitative digitally subtracted angiography correlation with arterial Doppler parameters.
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to quantify hepatic arterial flow (HAF) in liver transplants with splenic steal syndrome (SSS) pre- and post-test balloon occlusion of the splenic artery utilizing Doppler ultrasound (DUS) and quantitative digitally subtracted angiography (Q-DSA). METHODS A total of 193 liver transplants were evaluated retrospectively. Hepatic arterial velocity (HAV) and H...
